Caixa

The caixa is a Brazilian snare drum that a percussionist strikes with sticks and that emits a sharp, cutting, loud sound that is an important component of s samba battery. The snare is a drum that featured prominently in military bands throughout Europe; sometimes the caixa is referred to as the caixa-de-guearra, the “caixa of war.”
