Winter can’t last forever! This is a song to celebrate the well-earned coming of the Ukrainian spring. We first heard this song on a Smithsonian Folkways album by the Kobzari Ukrainian Folk Ensemble, a group of musicians in their teens and twenties that formed in Nebraska in 1972 to celebrate traditional Ukrainian music. The original, “BECHaHKA (Vesnianka),” is described there as “a light-hearted melody…familiar to most Ukrainians.”
