We now celebrate life by dancing the Balkan Kolo!
We danced a lot over our last three months of Eastern European musical explorations — the Russian kalinka, the Hungarian Csardas, the Romanian Cadaneasca and more. Sometimes we found inspiration from videos of cultural dance troupes, usually wearing traditional costumes and performing for appreciative audiences on stage. We like that, we do, but we also find charm in dancing on the street. The dancers of the Balkan kolo in this video seem to be a practiced troupe — unless they all just happened to go sweatshirt shopping together — but their dance on the street emanates charm.
