We’ve spent the last several days inspired by the Kyrgyz epic Manas and the “manaschi” who continue to reinterpret it, an tradition that very consciously connects Kygryzstan’s present with its epic past. Watching menaschi videos on YouTube is all well and good, but the time has come to put our Manas where our mouth is and try singing the epic ourselves.
