Bellydancing to Beautiful Baladi

Parents know this — kids don’t need an excuse to shake their bellies. When we “travel” in music class to the Middle East we definitely bellydance, and when we do our bodies move to awesome Arabic rhythms like those in a family known as “Baladi.” Among the most common baladi rhythms is Maqsum, which we drum out in class using Arabic drumming phrases — “dum” for a hit in the center of a drum, “tek” with a sharp slap near the drum’s rim. Want to drum along?
