The Fantastic Francis Corpataux

I first heard the original version of “Naanu Bathene,” which we sang yesterday, and several other of our other favorite All Around This World songs, on an extraordinary set CDs of children’s music recorded by French-Canadian ethnomusicologist Francis Corpataux. His collection of over 20 recordings of children’s songs from several continents helped inspired me to become so very enthusiastic about the way children everywhere use music to wholeheartedly embrace the world. For decades Corpataux has been traveling the globe with recording gear, meeting children where they play and capturing their joyful songs. His CD booklets offer summaries of each song in French and English, and – when you ask nicely, as I did years ago – he’s also kind enough to share lyrics and even more background information about your favorite tracks
