Make a Mapuche Trutruca — can you bamboo?

A Mapuche trutruca is a traditional instrument of the Mapuche of Chile (Pueblo mapuche) that’s made of a several foot long stretch of chusquea culeou, a species of bamboo native to the rainforest in Valdivia, Chile. The Mapuche trutruca is lined on the inside with string and animal gut, and blown like a trumpet. With that description, can you imagine what it sounds like? Guess at the sound before you play the video. (Bonus!: run out to the rainforest, chop down a chusquea culeou, and make your own.)
