Kosovo-Albanian Eurovision star Rona Nishliu sure sings her heart out….
Kosovo is tiny, tempestuous land whose strong history of diversity — Albanian Muslims intermingled with Serb, Romani, Ashkalian, Bosniak and Turkish cultures — has also proven to be the root of its troubles. The status of Kosovo’s independence from Serbia is still actively in dispute–the nation’s dominant ethnic Albanian population is in strong support, but ruling Serbia still strongly opposes. In part because Kosovo’s status is unclear the nation hasn’t been able to formerly do something very important in Europe — send a direct representative to the annual Eurovision Song Contest.
