Yupik Rap: “Let’s Teach Them About Respect!”

We’re going to start our week revving up to our season of music from the U.S. and Canada with a trek to the north. The Yupik People, a group of indigenous peopls who mainly live in the northern United States, in Alaska, and in Russia’s Far East.  Let’s begin, as one must, with this video of a Yupik rap.  Here is a translation: “Listen, you will learn. By being lazy you won’t accomplish anything. Now, you won’t always have fun. Think about your future, always help each other out. Behave yourself because we are role models to the younger ones. And because we’re role models, let’s teach them about respect!”
