Zanzibar–Language

Zanzibar is generally regarded as the birthplace of Swahili, the predominant language of Eastern Africa. Swahili is mainly a language of the Eastern African Bantu people, but it reveals Zanzibar’s past as a trading and traveling hub by featuring many words and forms borrowed by from Persian and Arab visitors. Zanzibaris call the language “Kiswahili,” so that’s what we’ll call it.
