The ravanne is a really large frame drum that forms the heart of the rhythms used in Sega music, a genre distinct to the island of Mauritius.
Sega music, which overlaps with seggae music of the nearby Mascarene Islands, originated with slaves brought to the islands from West Africa, East Africa, Madagascar and India by the French. Today most Sega lyrics are in Mauritian Creole, which is a vibrant French-based blend of a number of European, African and Asian languages.
