Te Pua No’a No’a

COUNTRY: Tahiti

LANGUAGE: Tahitian

A Tahitian song written by Heremoana Ma’ama’atuaiahutapu about the stunning natural beauty of the island, conjuring vivid images of fragrant flowers of Ahurai and Fanatea, encouraging us all to dance in joyful appreciation.

On the site Pareoles-musique you’ll find the original lyrics along with a French translation. The song celebrates the scent and delecate beauty of the flowers — there are SO MANY beautiful flowers in Tahiti! — and conjures the image of the attendants of the Queen forming flowers into a crown for young girls to wear as they dance.

In All Around This World’s version of the song we take some poetic license and sing about collecting imaginary flowers, tying them together with a string to make a crown. As we sing we pretend to place these flowery crowns on our heads as we dance to celebrate Tahiti and the beauty of nature everywhere.

Lyrics of All Around This World version:

Te pua no’ano’a i Ahura’i,
can you smell the flowers?, I can
All the pretty flowers, everywhere we go
Te pua no’ano’a i Ahura’i, can you smell the flowers?, I can
All the pretty flowers, everywhere we go

We pick flowers and more flowers
Tie them with a string
When we wear our crown of flowers
We’ll find love in everything

Come and dance! Come and dance!
Come and dance! Come and dance!
‘Ia hura mai, ‘ia hura mai!
‘Ia hura mai, ‘ia hura mai!
