The Czech language may be almost a thousand years old but it’s still alive and kicking. About 96% of the Czech Republic’s people speak Czech, as do tens of thousands of first generation Czech immigrants who live all over Europe and the rest of the world. Speakers of Czech take great pride in the long history of the language; according to Czech author Karel Čapek, “A thousand-year history flows through each word. We do something magnificently old and historic when we speak Czech.”
