Saya (Bolivia)

Saya is a percussive form of Afro-Bolivian music and dance that originated in the Yungas jungles around the Bolivian capital of La Paz when the cultures of European descended Bolivians, indigenous Americans and African slaves mixed. Saya has inspired many kinds of Bolivian folk dancing, but the most directly African-inspired saya performances are exuberant and intensely rhythmic.
