Lesson 8: Martinique

This week in music class we hop over to Martinique, an island, along with its buddy-island Guadaloupe, that composes part of the French Antilles, also known as the French West Indies. On the surface it appears to be a happy-go-lucky island, and for the most part it
well may be, but there’s surely a bit more to Martinique than meets the eye.

OVERVIEW: Martinique bounced back and forth, back and forth, between British and French control…and guess who won?

MUSIC: ZOUK! And begine, kadans and more.

WHEN YOU GO THERE: Martinique is an outpost of France with a Caribbean soul.
