Tropicalia is a Brazilian cultural movement that developed in the late ’60s as a fusion of Afro-Brazilian traditional music, experimental poetry, ambitious visual art and rock ‘n roll. Tropicalia pioneers like Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil (who served for several years as Brazil’s Minister of Culture) morphed over time into Brazil’s primary form of popular music, called Música Popular Brasileira.
