Though Spanish is Colombia’s primary language, there are over 80 languages spoken in Colombia, from Arawakan dialects to Wayuu a language spoken by about 300,000 people in northwestern Colombia and northeastern Venezuela with a proud history of defying colonialist rule for several hundred years, most notably in the mid-1700s when an estimated 20,000 armed Wayuu fought the Spanish.
